1. General information
This subject provides information about representative literary and cinematographic works to be used in the teaching of different levels of SFL.
These approaches and objectives are aligned with the following Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations 2030 Agenda (https://www.un.org/sustainabledevelopment/es/): 4, 5, 10, 16 and 17.
The subject is elective and taught during the second semester (6 ECTS). It aims to improve the ability to integrate and assess the main movements and trends in Spanish and Latin American literature and film in the teaching and learning of SFL. An advanced instrumental mastery of the Spanish language is required (non-native students will be required to have a B2 level of Spanish).
2. Learning results
Upon completion of the subject, the student will be able to:
-develop a critical knowledge of the subject´s bibliography.
-know the most representative Spanish literature and film classics.
-select and present literature and film texts and documents in Spanish in all types of media.
-exploit different banks of experiences and resources on film and literature in the SFL classroom.
-learn about contemporary theatre through its most representative authors and exploit the possibilities this genre offers as an activity in the SFL classroom.
-use films as a methodological resource in the SFL classroom.
3. Syllabus
1. The great classics of literature in Spanish: selection of texts and creation of activities in relation to the objectives and characteristics of SFL students.
2. The contemporary novel and theatre in the SFL classroom. Analysis of Hispanic reality through these genres.
3. The great classics of Spanish cinema: selection of texts and creation of activities related to cinema in the SFL classroom.
4. The different types of audio-visual resources available and their exploitation in the SFL classroom (films, documentaries, reports, etc.).
4. Academic activities
Schedule of face-to-face sessions, according to the academic calendar.
Main dates of activities’ deadlines: according to the specific calendar of the subject (a monthly delivery or oral presentation for continuous assessment). Participative master classes.
5. Assessment system
First call
a) Continuous assessment system
-Programming of a didactic unit on a literary text previously chosen by the teacher and the student. Value: 30% of the final grade.
-Oral presentation in class of the didactic unit programmed by the student on the literary text. Value: 20% of the final grade.
- Programming of a didactic unit on a film previously chosen by the teacher and the student. Value: 30% of the final grade.
- Oral presentation in class of the didactic unit programmed by the student on the film. Value: 20% of the final grade.
The assessment will take into account the quality of the didactic units programming, including originality and adequacy, as well as accuracy and fluency in oral presentations.
b) Global assessment test (on the date established in the academic calendar)
Academic work in accordance with the contents of the module and subject (100% weighting). The bibliography consulted, the scientific accuracy, the personal reflection on the topic addressed, the originality in the presentation and in the selection of the contents will be assessed.
